FC 25 - Unknown Caller

I love it. I love it. I love it. This has got to be one of my favorite comics of all times. The drawing is great, hopefully it will elicit a chuckle, and it provides valuable social commentary on the use of caller ID.

Credit for the awesome drawing goes to Deanna. I didn't have access to my regular painting program* so I had to use Adobe Photoshop*, which is why the coloring looks a little shabbier than normal. I'm almost tempted to go back and post the uncolored one because it is so great, but I'm also pretty lazy. I guess I'll have to save that one for the limited edition book–full of interviews with the artists, behind the scenes footage, and deleted comics–set to be released by Penguin Press in Spring 2009. Pre-order now!

FC 24 - Braille Style

This Friday's comic comes to you courtesy of Jenelement (a.k.a. jenelvis, jenelevator, jenelephant). Again, the treacherous canvas of MS Paint was braved to bring you these chortles, which only proves that with talent, creativity, and constant nagging from a friend, people can create good images with bad image editors.

As for the Fridayness of my Friday comics, I fully intend on keeping the little tradition going while I'm on the road, but I do request that you give me a little leeway regarding schedule. Computers have a way of making themselves scarce sometimes, and I can't do anything but patiently hunt them. I thank you in advance for your patience.

FC 23 - Sideways

I had to outsource the artwork on this comic all the way across the border. Please don't tell the IRS. My gracious host, Gabriella, from Yelapa, Mexico drew this one. (And as [almost] always, it was colored by yours truly.)

Besides being a wunnerful comic artist*, Ms. Gabriella is also a wunnerful musician. Perhaps you recall how I recounted stories of some great evenings sitting around a campfire while she did her folksy music thing on stage. Well, I neglected to pass along the link then, so I will do just that now: check out her music over at MySpace. (Oh, and if anyone knows how to set it up so songs are downloadable through the myspace music player thing, pass that info along to me and I will pass it along to her and then I will download the music and then I will put it on my .mp3 player and then I will listen to it and then I will laugh at "I'll show you mine" and then the people on the bus will look at me funny for laughing when I'm not talking to anyone.*)

Anyhoo, enjoy the comic. Enjoy your Friday. Enjoy Pi Day!

FC 22 - Three Piece Suit

Ever since the days of Key Club conventions*, I've always had to chuckle at the term "business casual". That qualifies as an oxymoron, right? These days I don't find myself with the occasion to be invited to business casual events much anymore* Well, only after I contracted out this comic did I really realize that it is written without a slash in between, hence the last minute addition of the "typo" portion of the caption. I think it still works.

Thanks to Deanna for the lovely drawing, as always. (I tweaked the lips a little. Please don't disown me.)

FC 21 - Pre-penny

Annie again delivers this week's comic with her unique MSPaint style. Coloring the comics that are submitted is becoming a favorite weekly task of mine. It allows me to add a little artistic input to the comic but without requiring any artistic skill. Here soon, I will work up a fancy post that shows the evolution of the process from submission to production.

This comic idea was the second one I ever came up with when I decided to start my comic series (which, as you remember, was originally only slated to run one month). No one has been brave enough to tackle it until now. I really like how it turned out and only can hope that I get the concept across well enough in the caption to do justice to the awesome drawing.

(Sorry for the late post. The internet isn't quite as accessible here in the Olympic National Park, where I am enjoying a little vacation)

FC 20 - One Sly Apeman

This Friday's comic is again MS Painted by Annie from the D.C. area. (For all of you paying attention, it is the same Annie as before and no she hasn't moved from Florida. I was just about 1500 miles off in my geography before. You know how locationless the internet sometimes is*.) Oh, and I added some color and "layering"*.

The idea for this one came when I was down in Yelapa last month*. While we didn't see any snakes, I did see a couple scorpions. Oh, and I did try my share of pick up lines. They turned out about as successful as I imagine Mr. Tarzan's are is to.

FC 19 - Magical Sunset

See? I told you it would be relevant. Well, not relevant in a northwest kind of way because the sunsets are few and far between this time of year (except for that one Purty One). No, I figured this one kind of fit with the whole Valentine's Day theme.

I will have to give partial writing credit on this one to River and the whole veggie bus clan. It came from a sunset we all saw together, but River provided the cynicism necessary to turn it into a great comic (although I'm sure that wasn't his aim.) Also, I got my go to artist Deanna to draw this one and I think it turned out great. (She is especially proud of the buns on the dude.)

But don't let this comic distract for more than a moment from the task at hand. Go write a poem. Make it a good one. I like good poems. (Actually, I like the not as good ones just as much.)

FC 18 - Soap Box Derby

I haven't been able to shake the creative bug* recently, so I took another stab at comicking. (And again I was reminded of how talented my comic artists are and how grateful I am for their contribution.) In all honesty, I spent WAY too much time dinking around, layering, picking colors, etc. etc. This is one of those cases where doing in on paper would probably have been much more efficient. If I only had the skillz....

While the inspiration for this comic came to me so long ago that I can't remember the particular circumstances, I've been reminded of it often in these past couple weeks with politics in such a flurry. So while last Friday's comic about snow was apropos, I like to think this one is appropriate too, what with this week being all super and everything. Should we try to find some relevant topic for next week making it 3 relevant comics in a row?*

FC 17 - On Being Unique

I was feeling particularly creative this week so I had a go at the artistic side of the comic myself. Granted it is nothing in comparison with the usual artist types I sucker* into doing the dirty work, but it gets the jobs done. After dinking around in Paint Shop Pro* for a long time, I was again reminded how talented my other comic artists are and how grateful I am for their contribute.

It is kind of a coincidence that this comic is running this week where we got snow here in Anacortes. I've had the idea for a while, actually probably the last time we had a good snow.

FC 16 - Alliday

This week's comic is a collaborative effort by a bunch of us bus people while we were sitting around waiting*. Well okay, most of us just sat around and said "wouldn't it be funny if you made him wear..." and then we all laughed but then realized it wouldn't really be that funny. Kelsey waded through what we all said and turned it into this brilliant comic. I like it so much, in fact, that I've posted the original, unaltered version here. (I did go ahead and colorize a version just to see how it would turn out. Not too bad*.

(Oh, and while many of the previous comics* have been based in personal experience or represent my personal views, this one is/does neither. Any similarity to actual people or situations is purely coincidental.)

To add a bit of interactivity to this one, let me ask this: how many holidays/special occasions can you see represented in the picture?
